Pascack Valley and Dwight Morrow line up at the line of scrimmage.

Behind a senior-heavy offensive line and a punishing rushing attack, Pascack Valley won its opener with a 47-6 victory over Dwight Morrow of Englewood on Friday night.

“We have a ton of expireience on the offensive line, with guys that understand what we do,” said coach Len Cusumano. “And tonight, obviously, it was our goal to get our run game going.”

Offensively, Valley relied heavily on junior running backs James Allmers and Jake Williams, who combined for 4 touchdown runs and 142 yards. Stephen Soravilla, Sean Cuffe, and Michael Solazzo each ran for a touchdown as well.

In the pass game, Stephen Begen completed 6 of his 10 attempts for 53 yards. Senior reciever, and former quarterback, Joe Campagna contributed with 3 catches for 47 yards, including one reception near the sideline that went for 18 yards.

“[Begen’s] developed his skills and strength…he did a great job,” Cusumano said.

In terms of defense, the Indians put together a strong performance, allowing just one touchdown. The unit played disciplined football throughout the game, holding both QB Jalen Hoyle and TE Jihad Edmond in check. Junior Kris Ostrowski had a sack near the goal line that was very close to being a two-point safety, while Andrew Martinez was credited with a pass breakup on a near interception.

Pascack Valley, who emerged victorious on opening night for the first time since 2015, beat the Maroon Raiders by 41 points. This was PV’s largest margin of victory in any game since Oct. 29, 2016, when the Indians beat Cliffside Park 47-0.

In Week 2, Valley will play on the road at Paramus. The Spartans are 2-0 to start the year after they beat Parsippany Hills and and Mahwah by over 30 points each. The game is on Friday night at Paramus High School, with kickoff scheduled for 6 p.m.
