The Smoke Signal had Pascack Valley students and faculty members watch the Sandy Hook Commercial released on Sept. 28 by the Sandy Hook Promise to see their reactions to the video. The foundation is led by the parents of the victims who were killed in the elementary school shooting on Dec. 14, 2012, in Newtown, Connecticut.

The commercial was created to promote the Sandy Hook Foundation and prevent gun violence before it occurs. According to the Sandy Hook Promise website, eight children die from gun violence every day in the United States, and in four out of five school shootings, at least one person had knowledge of the attack but failed to report it.
