Editor’s Note: When this story first ran on , it had inaccurate/misleading information about the names of Nicole Rifkin and Samantha Pincus as well as that the books were based on Livingstone’s life. We have changed the mistakes and apologize for these errors in the first place.

The Pascack Pi-oneers team have put down their wrenches and picked up pens and have created a children’s storybook series.

“Lily the Learner” is the first book in the series which was published in 2013. The sequel,”Lily’s Helping Hand,” was recently released earlier this year. There is a third book, “Lily the Pi-oneer,” that is currently in the works.

The first and main book follows a girl named Lily as she learns about STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) throughout  her school’s career day. The series was created by Jenna Malley and Sami Livingstone and was later taken up by other Pi-oneers, such as Carlie Rein, Nicole Rifkin and Samantha Pincus. It is illustrated by Nick Metz and Pincus.

“The major, driving force behind it [the series] was getting little girls more involved with the STEAM program.,” Metz said. “As of now there aren’t that many girls who go into engineering, or math and science, and the series is really trying to encourage them to be more interested in these fields because they really are interesting and fun fields. They shouldn’t be intimidated because there may be a male dominated subject field, but the series is trying to encourage them to follow their passions and do something they enjoy.”

The series is available on Google Play Store, Amazon, and Kindle in different languages. .

“Lily the Learner” can be bought here and “Lily’s Helping Hand” can be bought here.

The Pio-neers have made an app for the series called “Lily Visits a Farm: A Text-Based Adventure” which follows Lily as she uses science and technology in agriculture. This is available on the AppStore.
