Hobbies: “Our family likes to travel when we get the chance. Sometimes we like to surprise our kids with last-minute trips. Las Vegas was a big surprise for my youngest not too long ago as he thought we were visiting colleges. He keeps asking to go back as it was a really fun trip. I also recommend Miami Beach – Fontainebleau and Aruba when traveling returns to normal.
I also like to cook and BBQ. I have tried to create a few recipes from Carnival Eats. Not the healthiest food but some recipes are awesome. I have also tried to replicate a pizza recipe from our favorite pizza place – Colony Grill in Port Chester. I have a long way to go before I can solve that one. I am a sports fan. It’s been a tough year so far for the Jets and Giants. I am glad that I did not draft any of them in my fantasy football league. I hope they win a game soon.
Lastly, we have four rescue pets from three litters. One dog and three cats and they keep us busy. If you are looking for a pet, adopt don’t shop.”
Reason to run: “For the past six years it has been a pleasure to serve on the BOE. Our students deserve a top-notch education where they can learn, explore, be challenged, fail, and ultimately succeed – an environment where they are all welcome, have a voice, and are respected, in a fiscally responsible way.
During my tenure, I have been on many committees where I worked with the school administration and other Board Members in approving many items that have benefited our district. As part of the Curriculum committee, our administration expanded AP offerings and identified students that with a little nudge enrolled in AP or Honors classes. I have also encouraged the expansion of STEM offerings.
As part of the Finance and Guidance Committees, I ensured we had funds for our Guidance Department to be open year-round, recognizing that students need assistance even when school is closed. I also made sure funds were available for the girls’ PH softball field.
Ultimately, I want to make sure that our students get the best education possible, giving them the tools to be successful in school and in life.”
What do you hope to accomplish if you win?: “I plan to provide the support the administration needs to make sure that we can remain open while providing our students a safe, healthy, academically challenging, and rewarding school environment.
Recently, there was a School Climate Survey that was conducted as well as learning/grading comparisons. The study yielded some results that indicate we ALL need to do better for our students. Inclusivity and Belonging need to improve as approximately a third of our student body feel the following:
1) that boys and girls are treated equally well
2) students are teased or picked on about their race or ethnicity
3) students are teased or picked on about their cultural background or religion,
4) students are teased or picked on about their physical or mental disability,
5) students are teased or picked on about their real or perceived sexual orientation
As part of the Equity Committee team that was just created, I plan on looking into this and working with the Administration and look for solutions.
Lastly, I am the Board Member that pushed for Videotaping of our BOE meetings a few years back. I plan on advancing transparency wherever possible and revisiting front door security at our schools.”
