After a disappointing performance in the New Year’s Team Championships, sophomore Henry Tipping said “To win, we need to knock down more pins.” The boys bowling team kept this simple, yet valid advice in mind when they traveled to Bowler City in Hackensack on Monday.

The team’s performance was much improved, as their combined score of 2143 was good enough to beat Northern Highlands, who came in at 1850. Henry Tipping led the four-man team, bowling 199, 166, and 204 for a 569 series. In his second game, Senior Alex Robinson bowled a 210, which was the best game for the team. He finished just a hair behind Tipping with a 568 series. Juniors Tom Smith and Brian Sumereau both contributed to the victory with a 502 and 475 series respectively.

Once again, Tipping lead the team with a 613 series en route to a victory over Wayne Valley on Tuesday. He got off to a great start in his first game during which he bowled a 221. This was not only his best game, but it led the team. Tom Smith improved on his performance on Monday with a 531 series.

Pascack Valley’s girls bowling team didn’t fair as well this past week. Their combined tally of 1565 wasn’t enough to beat Northern Highlands on Monday. Senior Rachel Doherty had the best day for Valley. She bowled 162, 147, and 168 for a 477 series. Senior Jessica Benz also had a nice day with a 401 series.

Rachel Doherty again led the team on Tuesday against Wayne Valley. She improved upon her outing on Monday, bowling 189, 198, and 140 for a 527 series. Junior Alyssa Osenbruck bowled a 412 series. In their first game, the team bowled a 600 series, which was their highest series in three years. Unfortunately, the team’s combined score of 1646 wasn’t high enough to beat Wayne Valley.

Both teams are off this week, after their match against Bergenfield was postponed. The Indians are back in action on Monday, January 25, when they take on Teaneck at Bowler City.
